This state-of-the-art home recording studio was designed and curated in collaboration with multi-GRAMMY winning mixer and producer Jack Joseph Puig, Vintage King, SSL, Audio Perception, JSX Audio and several high-end audio partners — built to inspire artists to create
This one-of-a-kind studio occupies the top floor of a 20M-dollar historic Santa Monica estate, created by House of Rock, a Los Angeles-based entertainment company that inspires people and partners to support great causes and charities through music-themed events in a luxury rock show house.
“This space was built to inspire artists to create,” said Tyler Barth, vice president of business development and artist relations here at Blue Mics. “This studio is at the forefront of the music industry’s evolution toward a more personalized environment, where artists can work in the privacy of their home at any time of the day or night and have cutting edge technology at their finger tips.”
A Combined Effort
After four years of being the lead curator for the lavish studios inside of Esquire house, a similar project hosted by Esquire Magazine, We were asked to bring that magic yet again to the House of Rock. The fully-loaded studio features cutting-edge recording equipment and technologies from lead partners including SSL, Vintage King, Audio Perceptions, Blue Microphones, Fender, Waves and JSX Audio. Equipped with the complete line of premium microphones from Blue, top-of-the-line vintage equipment from Vintage King, the world’s first wraparound SSL Duality console and custom Barefoot speakers, the studio offers unparalleled opportunities for recording artists to unleash their creative genius. Additionally, the studio houses a Gretch drum kit that was provided by Drum Doctors.
Together, these industry-leading pro audio companies have united to provide a mix of digital equipment with vintage analog pieces in a perfectly balanced acoustic studio with extraordinary recording capabilities throughout the House. Every single detail was crucial to creating this $3.5 million room, from the custom equipment, to the suede herringbone floors, the special insulation and padding in the ceiling and walls, the bass traps and the vintage belt wall at the back of the sound booth. Not just limited to the studio, the entire house is hot-synched with mic cable, fiber optics and digital lines so that artists can record anywhere, such as the great room, library, or outdoor stage.
A Custom Experience
“Each space offers a different acoustical environment,” says Jack Joseph Puig, who has worked with U2, Lady Gaga, the Rolling Stones and the Black Eyed Peas. “With its books and art, the library will sound thick, warm and intimate, with no echo; the great room, with its high vaulted ceiling, means the sound will be bright and splashy.”
The House of Rock plays host to recording sessions daily for invited artists to experience this world-class opportunity, while charity concerts will utilize the outdoor stage. All studio production and recording assistance is being handled by the Blue Microphones engineering team so that artists are ensured an optimal state-of-the-art recording experience, in addition to mic tasting the full studio and live microphone lineup from Blue. Until the charitable sale of the house, countless artists will have the chance to record at the House of Rock studio.
